Structure & History

While the club was officially established in 2021, conversations around this topic probably started in 2020.

Like all good ideas, it came up in conversations between a group of friends, who had played together as juniors and youth, while having a few beers in a pub in Gilfach!!

However, it was 2021 that the meeting took place where it was officially agreed that it was going to happen and we had enough interest to make it happen.

Our first game ever as Gilfach FC was a friendly game on 9th July 2022, when we travelled over to Merthyr and played Gurnos FC in a friendly.

We entered the TERV Division 1 for season 2022/2023, where we ended up finishing the season as league Runners-Up, gaining promotion to the TERV Premier Division at the first attempt.

Season 2023/2024, saw us consolidate our Premier Division status, finishing in 5th place. It also saw us reach our first cup final, where we played Llanbradach in the Greyhound Cup, unfortunately losing 2-1 on the night to finish Cup Runners-Up.

The club is ambitious and are working hard to move up the pyramid system but just as important is the club ethos of the squad enjoying their time together both on and off the pitch.
